Having dealt with his own allergies and asthma all his life, Dr. Steven brings a unique perspective and understanding of the available treatment options to the care of the allergic patient. In addition to drawing upon a thorough working knowledge of the currently available medications, Dr. Steven may suggest various over-the-counter and non-pharmaceutical options for those patients who prefer to not use medications, or whose insurance coverage is so poor that most medications are unaffordable. He can bring cutting-edge therapies to his patients by actively participating in clinical research of new medications and devices for allergic rhinitis, asthma and sinusitis. He and his staff have completed 5 to 6 clinical trials per year since 1994, and in order to ensure adherence to the highest standards for patient safety in the conduct of clinical trials, he is one of the few physicians in the state who have achieved distinction by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals as a Certified Physician Investigator. Further, recognizing the rapid growth of understanding in this field and the importance of keeping abreast of the latest developments, Dr. Steven has attended an average of 68 hours of continuing medical education at local, national and international meetings every year since entering practice in 1996.
As a patient-centered practice, we go to great lengths to accommodate new patient appointments. Same-day appointments are often available, and no one has to wait more than 48 hours to be seen, depending on their schedule, availability and urgency of the problem. Requests for urgent visits by established patients are always accommodated the same day. We use a fully integrated electronic records system to not only manage the medical aspects of your care, but to monitor traffic flow; our quality assurance program sets goals that patients spend no more than 90 minutes in our office for new patient appointments and 30 minutes for followups, and do not wait more than 10 minutes in the waiting room or exam room to be seen. For those patients receiving allergy shots, a state-of-the-art electronic scanner allows them to check themselves in without stopping at the reception window, providing a faster turnaround time for getting allergy injections than in any other allergy office; 94% of patients receive their injection within 10 minutes of walking in the door, without having to make an appointment. More importantly, the computerized injection tracking system reduces the chance of dosage errors far more than is possible with the hand- written, paper-based dosing systems that are the norm in our area. Similarly, we use an electronic prescribing system to eliminate the errors that are common with hand-written prescriptions. Finally, our care does not end in the office - Dr. Steven takes his own call, being available to you 24/7. With the ability to log into our electronic records system both nationally and internationally, acute problems are accurately diagnosed in the context of your medical and medication history, without your having to deal with a covering physician who doesn’t know you.
As a referrer-friendly practice, our electronic records system allows Dr. Steven to easily communicate with your primary care physician. The details of your visit and any medication changes that were made are faxed to your doctor on the same day you were seen. Dr. Steven welcomes phone calls from your primary care physician when optimal care is best achieved by discussing a patient's case directly.
